Can anyone name a title for this film....

It would have been released in the 80's, police officer's wife and child is killed by a drunk driver racing hit and run, the police officer then takes revenge by trying to track the gang down by becoming one of the gang, I'm pretty sure he used a lamborghini as it was the only car able to catch them thanks to anyone who can solve this for me.
