what was the name of this late 70's early 80's native indian/ western movie?

  My husband has been trying to remember the name of this movie for quiet some time now and I am hoping I might get a little help from one of you.  It was made in the late 70's to early 80's (he thinks) and is an Indian Western movie about an Indian woman that cuts off a finger everytime one of her children are killed.  If anyone has any clue to what this movie is called ...please....let me know!  Thanks!
