The Burgomaster

I just bought the newly-released DVD of this pretty good thriller about a guy in a coma (Robert Thompson) who communicates with a nurse (Susan Penhaligon) by using psychokinetic powers to type messages on her typewriter.  Occasionally, he uses these powers to punish people who deserve it (and some who don't).  Several articles I read compared this movie to CARRIE.  But other than the basic premise of someone using special powers for revenge, the details of the story line and characters are quite different from CARRIE.

There isn't much action or gore in this movie (it's rated PG), so if that's what you're looking for, you'll probably be disappointed with PATRICK.  Otherwise, you might enjoy it.  The dialogue and acting are better than most movies of this type and Richard Franklin (ROAD GAMES, PSYCHO II and others) does a nice job in the director's chair.  And Patrick himself (whose eyes remain wide open even though he is in a coma, adding an eerie touch) is an unsettling character.

I'm also glad they released this with the Australian audio track rather than the version that was dubbed into "American" when it was released in U.S. theaters.

I haven't seen this but I did see "patrick lives"  which was more gore soaked and nudity filled.  it was just okay

I actually quite like this nicely low-key drama. The slowish pace really does serve to draw you into the story. The opening scene where he kills his mother and her lover in the bath is pretty nasty.
There are few things more beautiful than a sporting montage with a soft-rock soundtrack

I have a trailer for this on another DVD, cant remember what film though

the trailer is about 5mins long and looks like the whole film takes place in about 2 rooms...its pretty weird.

Actually, most of the movie does take place in about 2 rooms . . . the hospital and the nurse's kitchen / dining area.  For once the trailer was accurate!
