As if the news that the guy who gave us Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys was remaking The Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn't bad enough, now he intends to make it with NO GORE! He's on this puss commity against violence in movies and blah blah blah. He's even cited Blair Witch as an example of a film that scares without gore and made a teaser trailer that pays homage to it. That's weird since Blair Witch was not scary or entertaining at all. What I don't get is why this remake is even happening. Was anyone really clammoring for a TCM redux? But I can see a bright side: If this film is a success maybe we'll get to see Paul Anderson's Evil Dead!

See, the thing is, as I recall, there really wasn't that much gore in the original.  They didn't have the money for it.  Most of the really bad stuff was implied.  Bay's whole "no gore" comment displays a lack of knowledge about the orignal film, which bodes ill for the whole production as a whole.

If you're going to remake something, you probably better have more than a passing knowledge of the thing before doing it.

The Texas Chainsaw massacre wasn't all that gory.  I was just odd.

The Honn

Texas Chainsaw Massarce was an early example of a film scaring the hell out of people without using copious amounts of the red stuff. It freaked the crap out of me simply because of just how bizarre it was. It really doesnt need a remake. Dont make me go get grand-pa.

But I know that won't happen. I have never seen THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and I an told their is no gore in the film. So yes, that just shows Mr. Bay not having any knowledge of the original Tobe Hooper flick.

In all retrospect, I just wonder if the financers of the remake knew what type of director they have hired. Sure he had a MILESTONE success with ARMAGEDON and BAD BOYS, but then did they see the reviews from both critics and audiences of his so called "historical epic" PEARL HARBOR and that almost had his head placed under the axe. So Bay thinks he can do horror? Well, good luck pal, but be prepared to be insulted for the rest of your life.

This is 2002, and Hollywood has still not learned their lesson. Comon, bring in Peter Jackson to deliver real entertainment.

A director hasn't yet been attached to the TCM remake.  Bay is producing.  It may very well be directed by Toby Hooper who directed the original.  He's already involved in writing the script.

Personally, I liked Deep Impact better than Armageddon.

Actually, to say there's "no gore" is a bit of a simplification: there's a *tiny* bit of splatter during one of the killings (according to the commentary track, it was administered by a PA flicking the stuff off his fingertips), another tiny bit when Grandpa is being fed, and then a fair amount when the heroine jumps through a window. It really is a bad sign that Bay thinks he's being revolutionary by not having gore; he sounds like yet another person jumping to conclusions based on the title (a friend of mine pointed out that it's impossible to seriously tell the film's merits to someone who hasn't seen it once you tell them the title).

Tobe Hooper\'s really been slacking off since TCM. Poltergeist was so-so, but everything since then has been crap. Did you see The Mangler? Ugh....

I really hate Michael Bay. Just can't understand how you can say he has not made horror yet. I guess all his earlier films apply more to horror than to any other genre. Well, except unvoluntary comedy, I guess.

So he wants to remake TCM? OK for me. I just won't watch it. That also means he has given up with the idea of a remake of "The Omega man" starring Will Smith. Now I can breath....

Oh, man, I hope so. When I heard that Will Smith had been chosen to front I Am Legend, I nearly died.
