Movie about a cryatal skull

This crystal skull opens doors to other dimensions or something and a guy has it and others are trying to get from him, there is an old dead guy (a skeleton) helping him, if I remember correctly the skeleton guy had a voice that reminded me of say Jack Palance or Sam Elliot maybe. There was also somthing to do with the Grandfather or Great Grandfather of the guy who has the skull
