Unexpected Suprises

Call me captain obvious, but I didn't know Liam Neeson was in Krull.  I saw it this weekend and had to go to IMDB to verify.  I love coming across stuff like that in old (yet good) movies that I haven't seen for a while.    It kind of puts me in the mood to go hunt easter eggs or something.

Liam Neeson was memorable in alot of small parts in films, before he became a star. Some of his other memorable parts are as Gawain in "Excalibur," Churchill in "The Bounty," and Fielding in "The Mission."

I remember stumbling upon "BMX Bandits" many years ago before there was an imdb.com, and telling people, "Look, that's Nicole Kidman." I was told I had no idea what I was talking about, that I was crazy and a few other things I can't print here. So we called a video store that had paid for one for one of those huge Facts On File type things for cross referencing films, actors and the like. It took them ten minutes, but even they were surprised when they confirmed it.

Hey how about Lewis Black in Jacob's Ladder? He was the doctor talking to Tim Robbins after he woke up in the tub of ice water.

I got a kick out of noticing James Cromwell in Murder By Death and Revenge of the Nerds after he hit it big. It's a funny thing how somebody can be working in movies for years and then suddenly get a role that makes him a household name. And it feels so weird running across the guy in a movie you saw many times before you had any reason to remember he was in it. It kind of feels like you missed something obvious, even though you know it wasn't.
