So, I ordered pizza tonight although I should have known better, and I ordered an anchovy pizza with mushrooms and extra cheese. I haven't had one in nearly 15 years. It was the first one I tried of the three pizzas I ordered, and while it wasn't as salty as I remember, I wasn't put off by it by any means. Doubt I'd rush out to order another real soon, but it is good.

Does anyone else out there like anchovies on their pizza?  And if you do, what other toppings do you like with them?

And now for something we hope you'll really enjoy!

I've never had pizza with anchovies.
Matter of fact, I've never had anchovies.

Would you recommend trying a single anchovy before having a bunch of them on a slice of pizza?

What do they taste like?

Yes, I like anchovies on my pizza. It's also a traditional ingredient in Greek salad but hardly anybody does that.

I would definitely try one before going with it on a pizza. They're pretty salty. Maybe put it on a cracker or something.

I've never had anchovies either.  My uncle loves them on pizza, so I've been tempted to try them.  But not quite tempted enough  :teddyr:

I love fish!! Achovies with more fish, therefore a seafood pizza for yours truly!

Anchovies are like little fleshy strips of salt.

I love 'em.

Anchovies seem to corrupt the flavor of the whole pizza.  Even if you do "halfsies".  The same thing as onions.  I think its a hit or miss thing with most people.

I'll join the chorus of people who have never eaten an anchovy.  Hearing a lifetime of jokes about them being so awful has unfortunately put me off the idea.  And I've never been faced with a random opportunity to try them.

I admit I'm somewhat curious to try them, but it's really not high on my list of things to do before I die: below "go skydiving" but above "experiment with homosexuality."

Really?  Above "experiment with homosexuality", but below "go skydiving"?  Eating anchovies is a lot cheaper and less risky than either of those.  If you eat sardines, you are good to go on anchovies.  They just seem out of place on a pizza the first time you eat one.

Or, as my dear father used to say, "Once you get past the smell, you got it licked."

Ah, but I'm not ranking my life "to do" list based on cost or risk, I'm ranking it on how much pleasure I suspect the activity will bring me.  I think skydiving would be more fun than eating an anchovy, and either would be more fun than experimenting with homosexuality (which to make clear is at the VERY bottom of my list... only to be attempted if I've sampled EVERY OTHER possibility in life... just so I don't get any misguided propositions by PM  :bouncegiggle:)

Yes, and in a Caesar salad as well. I don't think its the taste of 'em so much that puts me off from eating 'em, which I don't mind, it's the though of eating 'em, that puts me off 'em.

Actually, not being a foodie--well, maybe a little--while you can enjoy a Caesar salad without anchovies in it, it is not a real, true Caesar salad without anchovies.

Now, on the other hand, don't ask me about octopi or squid.

Since you threw down the gauntlet, what up with octopi and squid?

Personally, squid is better as it is not as rubbery as octopus. At least not the time I ate the two.

Oh, I love calimari!  Especially tentacles... never had octopus, though.  I've never heard anyone talk it up as a delicacy.

With the right flavorings, octopus can be more tasty than chewing a latex glove, but you're still chewing a latex glove in the end.

Mmm... octopus...

You have to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing. They're popular in Spain near the Mediterranean, you can get them in salads and on tapas, and they're absolutely amazing. I've had 'em in sushi, too, and no complaints.

On the other hand, I once paid way too much for grilled octupus in a well-known Philadelphia restaurant, and the experience was, as Javakoala said, pretty much like chewing a latex glove.
