The next Silent Hill game actually sounds promising.

You get no weapons in the game.  As the articles says, imagine what it would be like if your every day average Joe got sucked into Silent Hill.  How long would he survive?  Sounds like a bit of a creepy concept, except you'll never get to kill a single thing.  Makes me wonder if there'll be a final boss fight, or if it's just going to be dodging the final boss until it gets tired or dies of a heart attack.

So this is coming out for the Wii, PS2 and PSP, while Silent Hill: Homecoming is coming out for the PS3, Xbox and PC.  Kind of weird.  A big name title that's for the PS2, at this late date.  Maybe I'll have to pick it up.  I've never played a Silent Hill game before - always heard they were great.

Absoultely no weapons?  I'll admit the average joe isn't going to be carrying a knife or a gun.  But I'm betting they would pick up a stick, a rock, or something.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

I can definitely understand Konami's thought process on this one. Since a number of Wii titles are ports of games that were originally on PS2, Konami can build an original game that can run on all 3 formats with a minimum of coding translation and make twice the money. Between all the people who still play their PS2s regularly and the die hard SH fans who will play an installment no matter what the system, it's a sound business plan.

"Don't make me stain my last clean shirt with the back of your head." - Shatter Dead
"A grizzly bear with a chainsaw. Now THERE's a killing machine!" - The Simpsons
"I've always wanted to make love to an angry welder." - Jaws: the Revenge

Mofo Rising

There's a couple of games coming out that seem to be falling amidst the cracks of the 360 and PS3 generation, and seem to be sticking to the Wii and portable market. Not that I remember any titles at the moment.

I can understand getting rid of the combat. I think I've played every SH game with the puzzles way up and the combat way down. Combat has been routinely awful in almost all the games. Of course, no combat whatsoever can become just as annoying an affectation as bad combat. Wasn't there a survival horror series with no combat? Clock Tower, maybe?

I'd like an "adventure" survival horror, heavy on atmosphere, light on combat. We'll see how that works out.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

I think what they were going for was making it scarier without combat.  I know that games like The Suffering and such that were meant to be scary didn't scare me at all because my character had things like an AK-47 or a rocket launcher.  Going in with little more than your fists is a little more terrifying.

And I do agree.  I think I would at least pick up something.  Not that sticks and rocks can do much against demons, but hey.

A stick.

Yeah, that'll keep the monsters away.

Good luck with that.

Kind of interesting, maybe the Wii will keep the PS2 in new games for a while.  Cool  :teddyr:

I'm not saying it would work, I'm saying a person would try to defend themselves with whatever was avalible.  They'd feel better with some sort of weapon instead of nothing.
