Anyone else catch this? When I heard about it, I went to my default position of "chances are it will be crap".

Gosh was I wrong. While the start was slow, with a few minor plot hours it turns very dark by the end, with some excellent twists in the plot. It reminded me of the classic doctor who stories where they had enough time to create an excellent plot. Something missing from the modern doctor who eps where each ep is a storie, unlike the good old days where each story was 4-6 eps in length on average. They even went as far as making 1 series a giant story (The Key to time).

Caught up on BBC iplayer on wednesday and ended up watching each of the following eps on TV.

A few plot points bugged me but when it got going, the end took you by surprize.

I recommend watching it, if you get a chance. One of the best series I watched on TV since Jekyll (The modern take Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde series done by the BBC a couple of years back)

I wish we had more TV like this.
"We think too small, like the frog at the bottom of the well. He thinks the sky is only as big as the top of the well. If he surfaced, he would have an entirely different view."Mao. "At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality." Ernesto Che Guevara. "A lie told often enough becomes the truth" Lenin. "Religion is the opium of the masses." Marx.

The ending was great !

It's wonderful that Jack had the balls to do what he did.

It shows that Adult sci-fi isn't about swearing or sex.

If God exists, why did he make me an atheist? Thats His first mistake.

Agreed. It really annoys me that there is not more sci fi like it being produced. After the recent star trek film and the new Dr who which turned out to be terrible, I had given up hope on a lot of the new sci fi with some hope for the next series of SGA.

The ending turned out to be excellent. I also liked the reason they wanted the children and the fact it took over 4 hours into the story to find out what it was.

This starts next Monday on BBC America.  I will DVR it and watch it marathon style the next weekend.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

It isn't 'typical' Torchwood then?  The TV series seemed a bit precoccupied with sex.  It got boring.
