Sounds like an old bootcamp punishment.  We weren't supposed to have anything in our pockets, so if you got caught carrying cigarettes they would make you smoke them all with bucket on your head.

Sounds like the traditional punishment for getting caught smoking I used to hear about as a kid. Don't know if anybody's dad actually did it, but rumours varied from kids being forced to smoke a whole pack up to a whole carton, and usually ended with the kid throwing up. Out of all the times I heard about that, I have no recollection of ever hearing the name of the person it supposedly happened to. It was never a first-hand account, of course.  I am aware of one friend whose dad threatened to do that if he was ever caught smoking. Didn't happen to him, and the guy still smokes, as far as I know.

My eldest daughter's grandfather did that to her when he caught her smoking. He made her smoke a whole pack one after the other. She was sick to her stomach for a while and won't even touch a pack a cigarettes now.
