...should be at the IMDb Top 250?  http://www.imdb.com/chart/top
I'm pretty sure most people don't care, but I'm still curious...

I'm good with the film...not in my top 250 though.

I do like Shawshank Redemption.  Though I do have to wonder how it got voted up and stayed on the IMDB top list for so long...

Well, how many hardcore IMDB posters are big b-movie fans?

Well, at least 1,684.   :teddyr:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060666/ratings  That's how many people rated Manos 10.

Psycho Circus

Great film, but probably not. I'd go with L.A. Confidential or North By Northwest.

The Burgomaster

It's probably in my Top 250 . . . but near the bottom . . . there are quite a few movies I think are better . . . but SHAWSHANK is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

What is it right now? #1, eh?

Yes, I do think that it deserves its top title. Is it the greatest movie of all time? No. That would be Seven Samurai.

However, Shawshank is a great story. Really, a great story. While I think there are other movies that surpass it, there isn't another movie that has affected the broad spectrum that The Shawshank Redemption has.

No.  I've complained about this before.  It's a good movie, but I don't think it should be in the top 250, much less #1 ahead of THE GODFATHER, SEVEN SAMURAI, CITIZEN KANE, CASABLANCA, THE WIZARD OF OZ, SCHINDLER'S LIST, and so on and so on.

It's a good movie, but I think it deserves to be in the 200-250 range at best. It is a movie that to the average person has that 'greatest movie ever' feel to it, but the average person seems to have forgotten anything more than a decade old.

Agree. Hell-I can think of at least 250 movies before 1970 that are better.

Ya know, I understand its importance in the genre (it created quite a few aspects of movie storytelling), and I do think it is a very good movie, but one film I have to pick at is Seven Samurai.  It's been quite a while since I last saw it, but I remember actually finding quite a few parts of it boring.  Like the extended scenes between the youngest samurai and the village girl.  Just...  Uninvolving.  Which is a word I can't say I'd apply to any of the other Kurosawa films I've seen.  I think it's probably my least favorite of the seven or eight of his films I've seen (that or The Hidden Fortress, which I also found a little boring at times).

For my money, The Shawshank Redemption is a better film.  Think I'd agree your other picks are better though.

That fact alone is proof positive that it does not belong anywhere near the top 250.
