I thought this was going to be one of those xmas wars threads. ya know the ones, people getting irate that stores say happy holidays instead of merry xmas..    I like this much better

I admit I dislike a lot of what people have came to expect at Christmas.
Spending time with family. Except for my wife and kids, I could care less to spend time at all with my family because most of them are annoying jerks. Why make nice with a bunch of people who will go out of their way to screw you over in a heartbeat for their own amusement when I can avoid the emotional stress by not seeing them at all.
Then there is the cooking. I don't mind cooking at times but why should I stress myself out to cook a huge meal that I end up either freezing most of the leftover or tossing them out.
There there is gift giving. This is a serious mess. First there is always one toy every year that results in the most sane of people turning into insane barbarians to get. I don't think a child not getting the "hot" toy of the year is going to harm them. Nor is it worth a trip to the hospital and/or a police record.
Also the line, "it's better to give than receive", I suggest you you tell that to someone who found out they just got VD from someone. See how happy they seem about getting that "gift".
I have no happy childhood memories of Christmas, all I have are ones of pain and disappointment. All this holiday does is bring those memories back to me.
I think the main thing however I dislike the most about it is all the stress that some people push onto others to live up to what they consider traditions with Christmas. If you want to be all cheerful and giddy about it, that's great, just don't expect me to get just as excited. Don't try to tell me I don't need to be like that or act as if something is wrong with me cause I am not excited. Don't try to "cheer" me up. Just leave me in peace. I would be a lot happier that way and far less likely to yell at you.

I hate xmas, as it means nothing to me. I'm not religious and I think that all the commercial crap is a joke. Xmas is a business to both the church and to big companies these days. I also cannot stand eating the same damn meal every year, watching the same things on TV every damn year and spending time with family that I'd rather blow away with a shotgun!

I'm not really Anti-Christmas, I am more Anti-Commercialism of Christmas.  I think Mystery Science Theater summed it up best when they said in Santa Claus Conqueors the Martins that Christmas is a Christian holiday ruined by commercialism.

I also, I hate it when stores and companies seem to forget that we have a holiday in between Halloween and Christmas, and that is Thanksgiving (At least for us Americans).  what really ticked me off was that the day before Halloween, I went to the mal and I was passing through the JCPenny to get to a book store and I saw that they set up all their Christmas displays and products!  People, please!  At least wait until Halloween is over!

Outside of that, I am all for the happy holiday.

I love Christmas, too, but at the same time I hate it.  All the shopping and stress and trying to be to so many different houses in one day.  Ugh.    Don't get me started.

Well I do love Christmas but what I loathe, what I hate is people starting the whole thing up way too damn flaming early. I'm sorry but I don't feel anything Christmas should be on display before December and typically I prefer mid-December at that. They were actually playing Christmas carols at one store here on HALLOWEEN!! For frig sakes, leave Halloween alone. Christmas has no place on Halloween and shouldn't be replacing it...that's way too flipping early to be playing that sh*te. Leave Christmas to Christma..it p**ses me off to see Christmas decorations up already and on and on...why can't they leave Christmas to its own good time? My parents didn't even put up the tree in their day before Christmas EVE for crying out loud.

I can't stand Christmas.  Its not just a dislike for yours truly, its rather a big hatred. Why;
Top Ten Things I Hate About Christmas
1.) Radio stations that feel a need to play 24 hours of Christmas music starting two weeks before Thanksgiving.  Domenic The Donkey should pet put down by the way.  2.) People who stare at me in aghast when I tell them I don't like the holiday.
3.) The Hanukah song. Its not really that funny and neither is the Turkey Song after 100 listens. 
4.) Its a bit of a money pit. 5.) The overabundance of decorations people throw up on their lawn. 
6.) The fact I can't get a good parking place when I'm running into Wal-mart for something like paper towels. 
7.) Contrary to Christmas specials and songs snow is not magical, its a driving hazard.  8.) Receiving Christmas cards from people who I either; A.) Haven't talked to in years or B.) Think I'll know their kids on photo gift cards.
9.) Arguments on whether to say "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas". 
and most of all... 10.) As Blink 182 said once, being nice to the people you can't stand all year.  If you're a humbug like I am, feel free to join in.

I've found the holiday enjoyable the more one strips away the trappings, which by young adulthood feel like obligations.  Now, I spend time with people I enjoy, only buy for people I love (and all year long, so by Christmas, I am practically Santa Claus...) and expect nothing... and I agree with The DARKSIDER, snow is a driving hazard, at best it can be damned beautiful, but having lived my whole life in New Jersey (hardly CANADA) but snowy nonetheless, I have to say I loathe the stuff, and like it only on picture postcards!  Give me palmtrees swaying and colored lights on a sailboat mast. 

It gives one a kind of power to hate Christmas.     You are certainly committed.  Or should I say "should be committed"?

I have done Christmas while committed. It just makes one hate the holiday even more. So if you want to make people who dislike Christmas even sort of like it, you don't want to go the committal route.

You win Darksider, I kind of dislike it too (a friend and I have had our own anti-Christmas theme for at least 10 years... "Christmas is over, tra la la la la, Christmas is over, tra la la la la...) but the pagan in me is stirred by the time of year, and there are aspects of the nativity that are marvelous if incredible.  It's an important time of year - the end - in our culture, and for centuries.  My heritage of course is "Allhallowsday," but I consider Loki (Lochi) and Baldr (Balthar) and my own Celtic blood.  Don't forget them pomegranate seeds!  I love all of the changing seasons, and if God is in our world, it's through nature.      You're young yet, Darksider, but you will be astonished with the increasing speed of the seasons as you accumulate years.
