Love Cowboy Bebop so much I bought it.  I've also seen all of Full Metal Alchemist. When my daughter was in Japan back in 2005 she brought me some collectors cards.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Anime is a very large (and shameful) hole in my DVD collection.  I have ZERO anime DVDs.  Every time I go to Best Buy I look at the anime DVDs but I never purchase any.  I must make this a priority!

I find the DVDs hard to purchase, even of things I like, as they're so ludicrously priced.  Crazy part is they're WAAAAAY cheaper than they used to be (LaserDisc releases used to be like $80 and have two episodes), and they're STILL huge ripoffs.

Because of this, the only DVD versions I own are a couple Hong Kong releases (even if they're legitimate non-pirated Hong Kong releases, they'll be way cheaper and have english subs) and a couple movies I bought used.

The shows are often very overpriced.  I recommend looking for used DVDS or checking out Best Buy's collection.  Those are often cheapest used or new.

Its because everything in Japan is so damned expensive. There, you get a DVD with one or two episodes that costs more than what you pay here for four. Also, they pay a television tax, so even the anime they watch on tv isnt really free. Not that our situation is any great deal, either. However, I have noticed a trend, instead of releasing four at a time, some companies have been releasing box sets in two parts for around thirty each, as opposed to $15-20 for a set of four or $60 and up for complete series box sets. At best buy, they will often bring the 2 part sets down to $20 (13 episodes as opposed to 4). Both sgt frog and shin chan were released this way.

No, because I could never cotton to that style of animation. But there is one exception to that, and that'd be "Star Blazers" or "Space Cruiser Yamato," as it was known in Japan.

What impressed me about the series, was not so much the animation, but the characters, especially the villains. After years of watching mostly simplistic villains in American cartoon shows, I was suitablely impressed by how complex and complicated, at least I thought so, were the villains in "Star Blazers."

Whether it is for that reason or someother reason, "Star Blazers" continues to be one of my favorite cartoon series of all time.

Every so often I get an urge to watch some anime. I tend to somehow find some that no one else has heard of (or at least ever mentioned), such as Tree of Palme (Parumu no Ki) or Tekkonkinkreet. Both look a bit different than most anime that I have seen, and both tell engaging, thought-provoking stories. Plus they were cheap (Tekkonkinkreet was $3 at Big Lots). I did also enjoy Howl's Moving Castle, a movie that is more widely known.

I just don't care for the shows that are basically the same every episode, like Dragonball Z ("We must get more balls!" "But where?" "There! Let's fight for them!" "We win! But we must get more balls next time!" -- Not my cup of tea) or any of the shows based on card games. The Japanese have done some wonderful animated pieces; they've also done some absolute crap. So I tend to be very picky about which anime I watch.

I've watched it before.  I've only seen 10 episodes though.  It's prtty good, not the best anime.  I've give that to Monster.  Blood+ has a good sense of art style and has an amazing soundtrack.  I do agree though, this ain't little kids!  Espeically the opening scene!

If you like that show, you should see Gunslinger Girl or Elfen Lied.
