i dont know if anyone has seen the preview yet, but i would personally like to punch Will Smith and his kid in the eyeball.  Pat Morita is turning over in his grave, and Ralph Machio is well doing nothing like he has been since 1990. But still this p**ses me off

Psycho Circus

Awful, polished, souless hollywood garbage. They may as well have 50 cent as the Mr. Miyagi character and $hia Lebouf as the pupil. I see there's lots of nice slow-mo matrix style bulls**t and my ears shrivelled in horror at that disgusting mu$ic...

We say it so many times: "when will the remake$ end" (they won't, sure it may be a different approach, but get some original ideas and stop raping our childhoods. Nobody buy nobody is gonna keep catching this on TV in years to come like the '84 film or experience that massive wave of nostalgia when they popped in the DVD after nearly 20 years.

The Burgomaster

This is yet another remake that is SO unnecessary.  It may be worse than The Rock's version of WALKING TALL.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Ugh! Some movies should never be remade.  This is one of them. Got to agree with Circus Circus ... the original Karate Kid will remain pure nostaglia for years to come.

And have to agree with violnt shags too... that Jayden Smith is one annoying kid! I hated the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still.  And that whiny kid made me hate it even more! :hatred:

Jayden Smith is also just too young.  Kids 12 and under just aren't believable in that kind of role.  Lowering the age of the character was a stupid decision.  Sorry.

Not to mention, calling this the karate kid has got to be pretty irritating to anyone who knows anything about martial arts at all.

About the only thing that might be worthwhile is Jackie Chan.  I've seen him play tired, older characters before - he can be pretty good at that when he wants too (New Police Story).  Still, looks like garbage.

edit to add: if you look at the description, apparently Dre (the lead character) knows karate, so people call him the karate kid.  Pretty weakass way to reuse the old title while still having it be in China with kung fu.

Oh no, not another remake! I guess it's pretty much in the present-day Hollywood zeitgeist to do pointless remakes.

If they really wanted to update this film-shouldn't it be The MMA Kid?

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

I loved the original, but Pat Morita was no martial artist, and it really showed in the first movie.  I'm willing to give this one a chance.

You think we can start a world-wide nuclear firestorm before this comes out?

Okay, okay, it could be worse. Not sure how, but still...I WILL hit the first moron who doesn't realize this is a remake, though.

What bugs me the most about this pointless remake is the casting of Jayden Smith.
He alone ruined "The Day the Earth Stood Still" for me.

The blatant nepotism that founded this kid's "career" is disturbing.

This film, bad as it looks or sounds, can't be any worse than the rip-off South African version of The Karate Kid which was made in 1988 I think. It was called Umfana we Karate and featured a youngster who was bullied at school.

No budget for a sensei so the kid learns fighting moves from a arcade coin-op video game.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

That sounds horrendously awesome.  And VERY, VERY 80s.  I think I might have to track down a copy.   :bouncegiggle:

We have it on 16mm at the archives, Jim and I kid you not: the bullied schoolkid does learn his moves from an arcade game.  :teddyr:

Why is it even called "The Karate Kid"? Seeing that it takes place in Beijing with Jackie Chan as the teacher, they should call it "The Kung Fu Kid".

Please, please tell me this a joke or a fan trailer. (which I know its not!)

AHgrHhh ... I just threw up in my mouth a little ...

"Hollywood garbage" ... great choice of words for this one.
