Jason Goes to Hell... Masterpiece?

This film is really exceptional in the Jason saga. Its definately the campiest and most intentionally hilarious. But the horror and gore scenes rank among the most memorable in the series. Jeez, starting the movie off with eating a heart on screen? Thats fantastic.

I really cherish 90s horror. Everyone was trying to add crazy backstories to horror characters. It failed with so many like Pinhead and Michael Myers. But I really dig the revelation that Jason is some universal demon. It didn't give the series anywhere else to go, but it made for a new twist in the story. But it did set up the terribly cheesy and uninspired "Freddy vs. Jason".

I understand people thinking this film just doesn't belong in the series. Its not a slasher. It barely takes place at Crystal Lake. And it focuses more on Jason's family than the killer himself. And where the f**k was Creighton Duke in the first 8 films? I don't know. But he and this film are truly awesome.

Deathfeast

I like it. after part 5 you really can't take any of them too seriously because that is when he becomes like an walking dead demon.
So they can pretty much do whatever they like with it.
Jason x is pretty much B to the extreme!
Its a silly little movie but it has its moments.

Psycho Circus

It's not a masterpiece that's for sure, and that's coming from a guy whose favourite entry is Jason Takes Manhattan! It's not dark enough, too goofy and far fetched even for a fictional horror franchise! When you make tons of cash and run out of ideas, you lose sight of what made something popular to being with. You lose the integrity and the originality, i.e. Friday 13th, Freddy and Metallica....

Joe the Destroyer

It's a fun film, but far from a masterpiece.  I think the main thing that bugs me about it is the hyperactive music.

I've seen every film in the series, and I think Goes To Hell is the worst.  The idea of Jason's heart possessing someone, him having a sister we never heard of before, seeing very little of Jason overall in the movie, the goofy look of Jason, among other stupid nuances and subplots, really sunk this entry for me.  I thought The New Beginning was pretty bad, as Jason wasn't in it at all, but this one only had brutal killings to recommend it.
My favorite, by the way, was Jason Lives.  Perfect blend of horror and humor.

hehe... My wife thinks Jason is following the The Muppets... They both went to Manhattan and Space (hehe)... I'm still waiting for Muppets goes to Hell (unless its The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made comming in 2010)

As for the Friday the 13th (franchise) I like first 5 eposides, the others seemed to copy the success of Dream Warriors, like most horror films in the late 1980's and early 1990's before Scream.

Friday the 13th is my favorite slasher franchise, I've got most of the movies on DVD.  So one night I recorded Jason Goes to Hell, then enthusiastically settled in to watch it.  Ended up turning it off halfway through.  What is this junk with him hopping from body to body?  And this guy who shows up and knows everything about him?  This isn't a Friday the 13th movie at all.  None of these characters are likable, the plot isn't remotely interesting.  Eject.

I consider it to be the worst in the series.  Jason's suddenly a demon and has always been?  What the hell is up with that?  Jason's an undead, ugly guy who kills people just because.

wow almost correct... :)

Jason is undead and very ugly but not in that order and his motive for murder is "revenge" for his mother's death. Also (not to spoil the series but Jason didnt kill anybody in 2 Friday the 13 movies) also (not spoiling the series) Jason wasnt always 'undead' but thats when the series decided to make Jason an 'anti-hero' and started to sucked ass...

The demon background story is a weak attempt into puting Friday the 13 in to the same playing field with Elm Street...

When i first saw this one, i went into it expecting something truely AWXSOME. Jason in HELL! I envisioned Jason tromping along the molten rivers of fried human entrails and facing off with Satan and stuff like that, but what i got instead was......Jason Goes to Hell. The friday movie with the LEAST amount of jason on screen, aside from the first and 5th one. I hated it. But I think if I were to watch it again knowing what I was getting into, id like it.

Yea, the 90s had LOTS of really neet things, but horror movies was not one of them.

hehe I do like your idea of Jason in HELL... it'll be almost like Hercules in the Haunted World (1961) except instead of throwing large foam rocks, Jason could be throwing dead bodies... :)

He killed one person out of revenge for his mother's death.  He killed the other people in Part 2 because they were tresspassing on his territory.  From part 3 on, there really was no other reason than "just because".  I believe he was already undead in Part 2 ... that was a hell of a wound to get up from for any mortal human being.

He's SUPPOSED to be mortal in 2, 3 and 4.  He's just ludicrously resilient.

His motive is essentially an attempt to imitate what his mother was doing - but gradually he expanded this into just killing anyone he saw.  It's paper thin, but in the early entries, it's there.
