strange spirals on Australian radar

since january there have been bizarre spiral like images appearing on Australia' bureau of meterology weather radars

so far the best explanation given by them is 'interferance' but they look really odd to me, not random

and this may or not be connected, last week many people in australia saw and videoed this in the sky:
