In the spirit of Top 5 lists, let's talk BEER!

What are your top five favorite beers? You may include additional commentary if you like, such as if it's your staple beer, indulgence beer, why you like it, etc. Or, simply list them and that's it. I included fairly universally known beers, but there's nothing wrong with listing more obscure brews if you like. With the 4th of July weekend I figured people would be getting their beer on.

I'll start:

1. Newcastle (my staple beer, easy to find, tastes nice all year around)
2. Guinness Draft (although I usually refrain during the summer)
3. Stella Artois (actually a tie with Guinness for me)
4. Red Stripe (for the warmer months)
5. Corona (nice in the summer with a little lime)

I look forward to the replies. Bring on the beer!

Heh heh. As soon as I saw carlsburg I knew you must be on the east end of the pond. Cheers, mate.

I've got a 'mate' who usually brings round cans of Carlsburg "special brew" (9.5%) whenever he comes over. it's like syrup to drink and tastes rancid. always end up with a messy head the next day. it's possibly the worst beer ever, lol

The only two beers I usually drink are:

Natural Light 32 ouncers
Pabst Blue Ribbon 6-packs
Kneel before Dr. Hell, the ruler of this world!

1. Duvel - the champagne of beers. 8.5% alcohol, as complex tasting as a wine.  Terrific stuff.
2. Guinness - on draft, when properly poured and served at the right temp. I also love a black and tan (half Guinness, half Bass)
3. Chimay Blue Label - another high alcohol Belgian

Those three are way ahead of all the others.  My last 2 are subject to change but for right now:

4. Grimebergen Blonde (this is about tied for me with the Leffe, which DCA mentioned)
5. Young's Double Chocolate Stout - this stuff almost tastes like alcoholic chocolate milk.

For an American beer I'll go with Sierra Nevada, I've never had a bad beer from them.  For light beer I'll go with Sam Adams light.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Leffe are pretty heavy as well, what are they, about 6.5%? dont drink them too often but they're nice/

I went through a phase at university of only drinking this dutch beer called 'Orangeboom' for about a year, but now I can't touch the stuff, it's too sweet

5.  Michelob Amber Bock - Not the greatest but the only mass produced domestic I can tolerate.

4.  Asahi Super Dry - Actually, like it quite a bit.

3.  Guiness - The nice dark stout.  I didn't like it at first but find myself wanting it all the time.

2.  Moosehead - This is my standard drink.  Don't know why but bought it once and couldn't stop.

1.  Dos Equis - Don't buy it much but do love it.

However, suffer from the Oklahoma 3.5% alcohol.  Grrrr, come on at least get us to a decent 5% so I don't have to buy out of state.
Ah, the good old days.

Mr. DS

I'm insanely boring with my choices but...

1.) Coors Light
2.) Tequiza (no longer made I think but the next one is about the same)
3.) Bud Light with lime
4.) Bud Light (normal)
5.) Some German import I had at a Bavarian restaurant, can't recall the name

I don't drink much beer, but if you want to start a whisky thread...

In any case, here are mine, just three:

Spaten Octoberfest (get this on tap; it's incredible on tap)
Guinness

and my inexpensive standard:

Yuenling Lager

Going to find and give Duvel a try.  This is the second time I've heard it mentioned by someone who really liked it.

Orangeboom. I used to drink that, and completely forgot about it. I haven't seen it in ages. I wonder how hard it is to find these days.

Also, here in masscahusetts we have na embrassment of the belgian ales. I can't remember the names of them but in general I would say the ones that are from belgian are the best.

Westmalle Trippel.  I've been lucky enough to travel to Belgium a few times for work and I always look forward to drinking this beer while I'm there.  I've tried a variety of Belgian beers, but I always come back to this one.  Two thumbs up!
