Can machine even be born?

I looove monster/demonic machines/vehicles. Christine, Maximum Overdrive, Herbie etc...
I also enjoyed The Mangler. It was a decent film plus you don't get many horrors about killer laundry presses. The design of the machine at the end was pretty cool, from what you could see of it too.
However The Mangler Reborn doesn't contain a mangler. There is no mangling. It stabs people. Why would you want a stabbing machine? And its the flimsiest looking thing ever. Its shed-sized and seems to be composed of cardboard boxes.

It also forgets whats posessing what in the film. In the original there was a demon, and it posesses the machine and uses it as a shell. In this movie, the machine itself is a monster. The guy at the end becomes the machine, complete with garbled " I AM THE MACHINE" and some rubbish special effects. No, he'd be the demon not the machine.

There is also some bad acting, lack of music in anyway and some dodgy looking sets. The story itself is bad. Someone is stuck in the house and tries to lockpick/break the same doors over and over. Wash, rinse, repeat.

posted here to see if anyone else had actually watched this and because I don't think its particularly review-y.

Mister King once told me that the Mangler was his favorite short story (this was in the early eighties ). I wonder how he feels about the way Hollywood has mangled it.

HA HA, you said Mangled.

I saw the second one and said, REALLY!!!??  First one was good, but really, a second one?

Hollywood is shameless.

I watched this on cable once and it was a pretty onerous chore, like scrubbing barnacles off a hull or stripping paint. I think even the MST3K boys would have a tough time making this one palatable.

The original was a piece of trash.  The original short story isn't that great either.  If I remember correctly, it was Tobe Hooper who directed the film, was it not?

I could barely make it through the original.  I know I'll stay FAR away from the sequel film.
