I decided to go into this one erasing the memories of beloved after school cartoons in the 80s and time spent playing with action figures.  The result, I actually had fun with this film.  Though I wouldn't rank it with the "greatest evers" I have to admit the film is a very well put together action film.  Hell the chase scene in Paris I think was probably the best I've seen since in a while.

True... but I wished they would have made Cobra Commander look like he did in the cartoons.

It's safe to say Hollywood was WAY off.

I thought it was pretty true to the spirit of the show.  But that crap about Baroness being Duke's brainwashed fiancee?  No.  Oh, HELL, no.  Yes, I'm a nerd for complaining about it but it really sunk the movie for me.

He admits it.  He's a nerd.  Let's all point and laugh at the nerd!   :bouncegiggle:

Okay.  Enough of that.

I thought it was a pretty good popcorn action movie.
I do think it ended a bit too quickly and suffered from a lack of Shipwreck and Sgt. Slaughter, but otherwise, I enjoyed it.  I look forward to the sequel in the works.

And frankly, I think this is probably the best origin they've ever gave for Cobra Commander, granted the opposition is that's strong, I mean on one hand you have hideous snake man and the other bitter used car salesman that decided he wanted to take over the world, it's not like they've ever had a really good motivation for the guy.

See that was my struggle throughout the whole movie.  My inner nerd kept coming out but I just kept beating it back.

SPOILER

I don't like the fact they killed off Storm Shadow so quickly.   I'm sure they'll resurrect him but for now, c'mon.

A used car salesman turned megalomanical maniac?  That's an awsome origin.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this movie.  I was glad I saw it once, because it probably woulnd't hold up under repeated viewings.  But still, one of the best fun summer movies I saw. That year.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

I thought it was gadawful! Even thought it worse than Transformers 2 and that was horrendous.

See I'm unclear how members of this board couldn't appreciate it even for it's awfulness.   I mean a warhead that has nanotechnology that eats steel...sold.   :tongueout:

:teddyr:  I dont give big budget movies the same leeway I give lower budget movies. They had the money to make a great movie and still managed to muck it up.  Like xJaseSFx said, its bad on a transformer level... I didnt find it humorous or even entertaining in its ridiculousness. I hated it and gave the dvd to my brother.  :teddyr:

I can honestly say that I don't care one way or another about this movie.  I watched it, enjoyed it for what it was, and moved on quite quickly.  It just never seemed to work for me, but it wasn't horrible either.  There just seemed to be alot missing, either plot-wise, chemistry, I don't know what it was, but SOMETHING just wasn't there.

I can barely remember anything about it either...

I'm confused.

Is that considered a compliment here or not?

This movie was a huge piece of sh*t!

Utter garbage.  I gave it 1 star when it came up for rating on Netflix.  It's available for instant streaming right now and I didn't add it to my queue because it sucks so bad.
I've had bowel movements that were more entertaining.

The sad thing is that I had tons of G.I. Joe action figures and vehicles while growing up in the 80's.  I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they made this film.

JaseSF

I feel certain I'd pretty much agree with Ash's sentiments. Actually I cannot remember hardly anything about the film nowadays (which is perhaps for the best anyhow) but I know I gave my initial reaction to it in the "Recent Viewings" thread (on page 157 in fact).
