Anyone seen Outlander (2008)?

Now this was a pretty decent film.  It's about this alien guy (who looks human, of course), who crash lands on Earth (Norway) during the time of the Vikings.  With him is a hostile alien monster that was responsible for trashing his ship.  He tries to hunt the creature down and ends up getting captured by a local tribe who believes he's responsible for the destruction of a nearby village (course, it was actually the alien monster that did it.)

Eventually, the Outlander manages to gain the trust of the Vikings and they join forces to try and destroy the "dragon" (as he explains to the people),

It's a pretty good movie, although I did think it could have used a bit of trimming here and there.  I liked how they mixed the genres together and it's a bit of a fresh take on the whole "kill the beast" plot line.

If you get a chance, I say check it out!

Yep. I bought the DVD a while back and watch it occasionally. I felt bad for the moorwen and was rooting for it the first time I saw the movie.  :teddyr:  Its an underrated movie for sure.

Sounds interesting, I added it to the queue.  Thanks for the tip

Oh, and I forgot to mention the cool of the "shield running" game that the Vikings play as a test of manhood.  Dunno if it's based on history or not, but it seems like it'd be an interesting thing to try at parties...

The reviews weren't impressive, so I waited to the DVD. And I regret it, it turned out to bew quite a good movie, sot of a Predator / Beowulf remake with vikings and aliens thrown in for good measure. If you can put aside how outlandish the whole thing is, it's a very good movie, and the best Jim Caviezel has done in the last few years.

@BTM: The "shield running" scene was awesome. My guess is that they were trying to do something as stupid (but still somewhat cool) as that scene in "The Vikings" were Kirk Doulgas walks over the oars.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

I haven't seen that film, I figured the shield game was based on something Vikings did back then.  (They seemed the type to come up with some pretty funky "tests of manhood" type stuff.)

Watched it last night.  It was a fairly well made Viking Sci Fi Film, and the creature design was interesting.  Plus Ron Perlman with two giant hammers?  Sold!

3/5 stars from me.

I thought it was excellent but it leaves us interested in the Moorwen.  I know they go into the destruction of its world for colonization but it makes us wanting more of the creature.  I also kind of like the machine with near instant language acquisition.  Sadly, I think my nose would bleed constantly from overuse.  The one thing that bothered me was Jim Ca.... Sorry, can't spell his name and am too lazy to Google right now.  He just seemed accepted far too quickly or as though he had already been there in a way.  Just kind of got me when I saw it.
Ah, the good old days.
