Good year for comedies I guess. Never seen Cocktail and *drumroll* Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

I've never seen Oliver & Company and I can't stand Bull Durham or NOES 4, otherwise all those films are absolutely excellent. Stack that list up against the domestic grosses lists of films from the last ten to fifteen years and I can guarantee that all the films will suck big time compared to the ones from '88.

I don't see any masterpieces there but WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, COMING TO AMERICA, THE NAKED GUN, BEETLEJUICE, and A FISH CALLED WANDA were all very good.  A good year.

I think RAIN MAN is OK but terribly overrated.  BIG, TWINS, CROCODILE DUNDEE, WORKING GIRL were pretty darn bad.  COCKTAIL sucked epically.  Looks to me like Hollywood broke even on good films versus bad films in 1988, something they rarely can claim.

You too?  This happened to me in the 1984 thread.  I guess my dislike of many of these movies comes from being a teenager in the 80s. They were pop culture, the movies all the idiots went to see and yapped about constantly, and I was too hip and alternative for them.  Now I find it shocking to see younger people looking back fondly on stuff that I considered unbelievably square when I was young.

I'm actually surprised Roger Rabbit wasn't #1 the way I remember it being marketed.  My folks still have plastic fast food cups with Roger Rabbit stuff on them that is partially/mostly scraped off.

Rain Man is a great movie, I really like it.  Roger Rabbit is a lot better now that I'm not 6 anymore and I understand all the little things they were digging at in that movie.  Die Hard is obviously a classic.  And I love Naked Gun and A Fish Called Wanda.

This could have been the best one.  Freddy has hijacked a girl's dreams and is using her to kill everyone she cares about.  Think of the impact that could have had, if Renny Harlin hadn't been so hung up on making it look "cool" instead of telling a story.  As it stands, Elm Street 4 kinda sucks.
