So many things to say, not enough time.  Great topic to bring up our philosophy class.  I'll remember this.  What you guys?  What do you think?

We live in quite an interesting age. You can tell someone's sexual orientation and level of education from just their interests.

I think the parents don't get it on several levels.  It is not about whether people know the gender of the child, it is about raising your own child as a person FIRST at home - and to treat others as such.  We are all individuals and gender is just one part of us: I see their approach as stifling the development of that part.  And I saw a news spot where they said that they plan to allow the child to choose how 'it' wants to be treated/seen, later in life: unfortunately, this is one of those formative windows where 'later' may = too late.

so, what happens at family get togethers?
yeah no.

Some people simply should not be allowed to have children!! :hatred:

But, on the other hand, this pretty much single-handedly guarantees the future of the counseling profession!

New parents...

The field of psychology is littered with childhood tragedies when parents decide to raise their children according to their own "programs." Can you imagine a worse fate than being born to parents who want to raise you according to a program?

Don't get me wrong, I think homosexuality is completely normal. If a person later on in life wants to play with gender roles, that's fine and I support it. But that all comes much later in life. This, this is a BAD IDEA.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?  This particular couple already have two sons: the news item I saw showed a shot of one of the children running through a schoolyard, in a dress (over jeans) and his hair in two long braids.  It seems to me that they decided to raise this child "incognito" due to the reactions they got to how they were raising the first two.

Hmm. Maybe they just got a deal on bulk children's clothing at Big Lots. Times are tough these days.

I have been rolling this one around and I really don't see how this can be better for the kid in any way, and many ways it could be worse.

True, but then we get into Child Protective Services and governmental approval over appropriate parenting and who should be allowed to have/raise children. There's no way to win, only ways for the poor child to lose. It's beyond sad, really.

I don't see the point.  Almost everyone will figure out the gender as soon as they see the kid.
