Okay, I'm probably gonna get my ass kicked for this, but I'll say it anyway:

Despite its reputation, I really don't think that Troll 2 deserves all the hype that it gets. Yes, the acting/special FX/music are hilariously cheesy and the movie itself is fun, but compared to other b-movies such as Plan 9, Toxic Avenger and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, it falls flat on its face. I think I'm in the minority when I say that it is not the best worst movie as so many claim.

There, I said it. (Ducks in cover)

I'm confused is this thread about Bad low budget movies that people like us like or about big budget films you don't care for. I honestly don't know what we're supposed to talk about on here anymore.  :buggedout:

You are not alone. I know quite a few bad movie lovers who dislike/hate Troll 2. However, I wouldn't really compare Troll 2 with Toxic Avenger. Toxie is in an entire different league because the badness was obviously intentional. Troll 2 was made as a "serious" movie and failed miserably, but is a winner because of unintentional hilarity. Of course not everybody shares the same kind of humor so its understandable that Troll 2 is disliked by many.

I honestly can't believe Troll 2 was filmed as a serious movie. Something had to of been going on we don't know about behind the scenes.

If you watch the documentary, Best Worst Movie, that came out last year, you'll realize why the movie came out so terribly. The director, who was Italian, just didn't have a good grasp of the English language, so when he wrote the script and would direct dialogue scenes, he did it like he thought Americans looked and acted. This explains the weird vibe surrounding Troll 2. It seems genuine to me, though.

I think we've gone way off topic. I started this topic about discussing movies that are universally considered to be "bad" and "b-movie" fodder, yet don't live up to their hype or legend.
Not personal opinions about what mainstream movies you thought were bad.

If there's one b-movie that's incredibly overhyped, it's The Crawling Eye. After hearing it be praised by b-movie fanatics, I decided to give it a chance. I tried to watch it and it took me at least three tries to make it through. Even the MST3K version couldn't save it (Joel and the Bots even sound bored with the movie). The only thing I agree with the fans is with their statements about the eye creatures. They are pretty awesome looking monsters. The rest of this movie is overwhelmingly dull, boring, half-assed and uninteresting.

If you watch the seduction scene in "Troll 2," then watch the seduction scene in "Lair of the White Worm," you'll notice that the director of "Troll 2" did not only not have a grasp of the English language, he did not have a grasp of how to use a camera or how to edit a scene to best effect. Other then that, I find "Troll 2' (still have not seen the documentary) surprisingly watchable. There are other films out there I hate much worst.
