Movie genres that just don't work!

Some genres seem to have a disproportionately large number of bad films.  Case in point: Dinosaurs-in-Space movies.  This genre includes Planet of Dinosaurs, Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet, and King Dinosaur, none of which considered good.  What are some other genres that just don't work?

The "ghetto- kid-can-dance-and-becomes-famous" genre; they're all the same flick!
If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

The choice is simple; refuse to create, and refuse to grow, or build, with care and love.

Most of the 50s-60s space operas (aside from Forbidden Planet) where in every movie our heroic astronauts encounter the threat of a runaway meteor storm and later face the threat of some monster on a planet largely inhabited by scantily clad women (Cat Women of the Moon, Missile to the Moon, Abbott and Costello Go to Mars, Queen of Outer Space, Fire Maiden of Outer Space, etc.)

Haha that genre works fine for me!

That's another genre that works fine for me, Jase.   :bouncegiggle:

Here's one:  The predictable "chick flicks" where you know who the chick is going to end up with 5 minutes into the film, even though she "hates" him in the beginning.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love those movies too but there's no denying they're bad. Pretty much every martial arts films follows the youth gains wisdom in order to seek revenge for some evil, usually murder, done to either his family or close friends but I love those too.

zombie no.one

arguably not a 'genre' per se, but anything that tries to incorperate an "internet" element into its storyline

Argento's THE CARD PLAYER
UNTRACEABLE
YOU'VE GOT MAIL

a horrible recent slasher where the main guy keeps whipping out his phone to try and Google the guy chasing him for info...cringe
(forgotten the name, it had Paradise in the title iirc)

and although I haven't seen it, I'm gona go out on a limb and safely say this sucks:

Horror comedies.  Out of all the ones I've seen, there have been a small handful that actually worked, but most are just the type of junk you sit through and have completely forgotten about by the time you put the DVD back in its box.

I gotta agree with Ghoul on this...dinos in space work for me. PLANET OF THE DINOSAURS is a classic-and Roger Corman's paste up'stoo cool for school, baby.
Romantic comadies-anything with Eddie Murphy-like a VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN-Saterdy Night Live alum should not go beyond the very limit of their hipster type humor-cause,well-they suck,Chevy Chase, anyone?

Trevor

The anti-South African genre of film, e.g.

The Wilby Conspiracy
Cry Freedom
Lethal Weapon 2
A World Apart
A Dry White Season
Bopha
Catch A Fire
The Power of One
The Color of Friendship
Skin
Black Butterflies

All these except the third one from the top failed and deservedly so.
