Just found out a quote I always attributed to Eric Estrada in CAGED FURY was actually first said by movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn:

"I want to go where the hand of man has never set foot."

He has some other good Yogi Berra-type quotes:

"A bachelor's life is no life for a single man."
"A wide screen just makes a bad film twice as bad."
"Don't pay any attention to the critics — don't even ignore them."
"Every director bites the hand that lays the golden egg."
"Flashbacks are a thing of the past."
"Give me a couple of years, and I'll make that actress an overnight success."
"I never put on a pair of shoes until I've worn them at least five years."
"I paid too much for it, but it's worth it."
"I don't want any yes-men around me. I want everyone to tell the truth – even though it costs him his job."
"Spare no expense to make everything as economical as possible."
"Why did you name him Sam? Every Tom, Dick and Harry is named Sam!"
"Why should people go out and pay to see bad movies when they can stay home and see bad television for nothing?"

“To the rocket scientist, you are a problem. You are the most irritating piece of machinery he or she will ever have to deal with. You and your fluctuating metabolism, your puny memory, your frame that comes in a million different configurations. You are unpredictable. You're inconstant. You take weeks to fix. The engineer must worry about the water and oxygen and food you'll need in space, about how much extra fuel it will take to launch your shrimp cocktail and irradiated beef tacos. A solar cell or a thruster nozzle is stable and undemanding. It does not excrete or panic or fall in love with the mission commander. It has no ego. Its structural elements don't start to break down without gravity, and it works just fine without sleep.

To me, you are the best thing to happen to rocket science. The human being is the machine that makes the whole endeavor so endlessly intriguing.”

The big shelves are almost done. I’ve been going through the boxes of books, deciding what goes up and what goes to the Salvation Army. I’m being more ruthless than I expected. I’m donating most of the Steven King hardcovers, for example, because I’m reasonably sure I’ll never read them again - with the exception of The Stand, It, Misery, and a few collections. It’s not that the others are bad; it’s just that I know I’ll not read them again. And if I want them, I don’t think they’ll be difficult to find. He’ll be in print in 300 years. The Klingons will love him. They’ll use them as children’s books.
