I've been watching Republic of Doyle and I see that it is filmed in St John's, Newfoundland which I believe is your area of the world.

It seems to be a beautiful place: does the series portray it accurately?

The series is a dumb action show more or less so no, not quite although yeah it is filmed in St. John's.  I do believe the city has a certain beauty to it which you can kind of see on the show. Life generally is a LOT quieter there though although honestly the crime rate has risen in the capital city especially over the last ten years. I live around 5 hours drive away from there. I have been there from time to time and I went to university there back in the 1990s.
