Alien Kids movie with exploding corn silo

 I'm new here. And I've been trying to find a old movie I loved from my childhood in the 80s. For all I know, this movie could have been made in the 70s.

Here's what I remember:
-There 3-6 aliens (suits worn by midgets)
-The leader of the aliens wore something similar to sunglasses all the time
-I think they were sent to Earth to gather info and destroy it but fell in love with it and the kids they ended up meeting.
-I think a bigger and much meaner alien comes down to finish their job but they stop him/it.
-I mostly remember them accidently pointing a laser at a corn silo, which blows it up. Thus resulting in thousands of pounds of popcorn spilling everywhere.

But I can't, for the life of me, remember the name of it nor who the actors were. Can anyone help?

I did a search, and it looks like 8 times.  If it is not the most searched for, then it's probably in the top 5.

I agree with Andrew. That's the vibe I got from reading the original post by the o.p. (IMHO) a much underated film from 1989. My favorite scenes from the film are the ones where one of the space aliens winds up as a temporary grill decoration on the pickup truck.
