Here's a very experimental art movie that some might like, some will hate.  I don't like it at any level but it gets a fair bit of press.  But be warned, NSFW:

Begotten [Complete Original Film] Edmund Elias Merhige 710x480p

Begotten (1990) by E. E. Merhige.  All filmed in black and white and extensively postproduced to create a very distinctive look.  Probably the worst part is the crazy explanations and rationalizations in the comments below the screen.  "It's filmed in high contrast black and white to symbolize the duality of good and evil", or somesuch nonsense.

Is The Tin Drum supposed to be an art movie, or is it just in a foreign language?

Nah, that's just a foreign film.  They're all art films, haha.  I remember seeing that many years ago, very strange and somewhat disturbing movie.

UN CHEIN ANDALOU (1929)-ya know-the Dali/Bunuel film-I suppose thats an art film.
I would class VAMPYR (1932) as arty...and in in own warped way-GLEN OR GLENDA? (1953)-BA art-but one man's art is another's insane nonsense.
