Hey gang!
For those unversed with the technicalities of tv/cable programming lingo, promos indicated promotional material utilized by a tv/cable channel to drum up interest in that station's programs, with the plug for their channel being ever-present.  Bumpers were short segues to and from a show also courtesy of the channel.  Station IDs prominently showed the channel and served to show/remind you what channel you were watching.
Examples:
Promos:

Bumper:
Good ol' Casey Kasem!

Station ID:

Or ratings bumpers or "coming next" clips for cable!
Have at it, tv/cable lovers!

^The horse falling on the cowboy always cracked me up. :)
I rather liked the spacey/video gamey bumpers from the 80s for CBS cartoons.
Here's a couple; the latter was always just before the cartoon's end credits.

One of the many ABC promos set to the hit song "Still The One". (1977)

And a "coming next" bumper from Showtime during their "Showtime Excitement" days, based on the Pointer Sisters song "I'm So Excited".

^Watched plenty of USA Cartoon Express at my mom's in Vancouver WA on the weekends in the mid 80s.  Cable TV and Aladdin's Castle arcade at the Vancouver Mall.. good times!

I liked the barbershop quartet/doo wop Nickelodeon bumpers.
Especially when they would lead into Dangermouse or You Can't Do That On Television. :)

HBO in space (this was the usually-seen version that was cut from the original), plus an R-rated bumper.  I loved these as a kid; I was gonna see blood and boobies!

An 80s station ID for Portland's KPTV-12 (now FOX-12).  The voice is Portland's "Ramblin' Rod" Anderson, host of a long-running Portland kids show, "The Ramblin' Rod Show".  Good ol' Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach in the vid.

And in the early days of Portland/Vancouver's KPDX-49 (80s), this morning movie intro:

And Portland's own game show ON THE SPOT ('84-87).  Larry Blackmar is (was?) local newscaster Tracy Barry's husband.  I remember walking right in front of him live on camera at the Rose Festival; I'm sure he wasn't thrilled. :)

GORGON VIDEO ID for their home video tapes.  I remember their tape boxes being GIGANTIC at the mom-and-pop VHS stores.  Some sort of gory, shoestring-budgeted garbage would be inside!
