Kill Command (2016)

Caught this one on Netflix over the weekend.

A squad of marines are deployed to an isolated island for a training exercise against automated enemies. A cybernetic technician is assigned to accompany them and observe the exercise.

Day one goes fine. They're dropped off on the island, they locate the robot troops, and they destroy them in an ambush.

The next day, things don't go so well. More advanced robots show up, and they're the ones laying the ambush -- with live ammunition. Turns out that maybe it's not the marines who are being trained, and no one's sure what the technician knows about what's happening.

I don't recall hearing about this one being in theaters, but it appears to have a decent budget, and the cast and crew do good work.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this one as well.  The trailer looked good, and it played out really well.  A friend who is a scifi movie buff as well as former soldier was particularly impressed.

I picked this up based on the cool robot on the cover. A week later it appeared on Netflix because of course. The robots are all very cool and give off plenty of unsettling menace whenever they appear from over a hill, marching relentlessly forward with guns blazing.

I remember the leader was a Heroine. She could somehow communicate to machines that were set up in an ambush scenario. One of the robots seemed like a mixture between the T-1000 and Jason Vorhees. Like it murdered but it had some kind of morbid fascination with it. The whole movie really looked like a rehash of the Resident Evil movies. Like send in a squad of soldiers and some company hybridized with a Machiavellian mad man or group or consortium. And they are pretty much going up against something that they (or no one) has ever been trained for. Really a lot of the way that movie works is reminding me of the existence that a lot of us live today. Like Post Covid and Ukraine war and Gas prices going up. Going down. Going UP UP again. Like some kind of extra schooling should have been given to us. People talking about PTSD and things now too on forums, which I know some about — it is harsh.

I tried watching this film again, I saw it recently was on Roku or Plex. Tyranny. Remember that story about Montauk island all of the creatures being made there. At least with this movie though I am with you that at least the Director shouldn't have been arrested for having made the Movie. Because it is halfway watchable.
