I just saw alien the director's cut on hbo while waiting for bill Maher's show to start. It was an improvement on the theatrical cut.
 
It did not affect my favorite sequence in the movie, the nostromo landing sequence.

I also have to say i will always love Ripley for rescuing Jones.
