Watching Avatar just now and thinking "Wow, some of the FX in this have not aged well. The aliens look very cartoony."

I wonder how the sequels will look (if they ever actually get made).

I always thought the aliens looked cartoony. Even when I watched it at the theater in 3D in 2010.

I'm surprised this was posted in Good Movies. The general conscious on the internet is that Avatar sucks  :buggedout:

Alex

I find it enjoyable enough, although its hardly a masterpiece. The rest of the internet is free to feel whatever they like about it.

Still on.

2020 Avatar 2
2021 Avatar 3
2024 Avatar 4
2025 Avatar 5

Probably, because the 1st Avatar in 2009 still holds the record for the highest box office ever earned for any film ever made.

And if one cannot wait for 2020, one might try Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

It was visually beautiful but awfully preachy.  I called it "Ferngully With Aliens"!

I'd call it 'Dickcheese with Aliens'.

The best review of it I saw featured the rough outline of "Pocahontas," but with appropriately crossed-out substitutions such as "Neytiri" for "Pocahontas" and so on.

And, it was bluesploitative.

But I still enjoyed it.

Hey Zapranoth, not seen you here for a while. Welcome back.

I'd call it 'Dickcheese with Aliens'.

I never actually saw "Dickcheese" so I can't really say if they compared or not.

One day I need to start a list of all the great big beloved-by-millions spectacular movies I fell asleep during at the theater trying to watch.

One for the list: AVATAR

I'm afraid anything to do with HARRY POTTER or LORD OF THE RINGS belongs on the list, too.

"Oh boy! AVATAR! I heard real good things aboutsszz zzzzzzz...."

I saw BLACK PANTHER a few weeks ago and thought, "Wow, some of the FX in this have not aged well do not seem to be "state of the art". The aliens heroes and villains look very cartoony."

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Don't get me started about Avatar.  Utterly predictable plotlines and actions, heavyhanded ideological preaching, one dimensional characters, barely concealed regurgitation of plot concepts from Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves and even The Last Samurai.

The CGI itself, I thought was good.  For an idea of how it might look in the future, watch the trailer for Alita: Battle Angel.
