I'm just watching BLAIR WITCH: BOOK OF SHADOWS... it's so corny and nonsensical I half suspect the director was secretly trolling the actors into doing any random stuff he thought of, just for fun...e.g. giving them lines such as " I had a nightmare that children were looking up my skirt", and "how did you get into college, brush your teeth?", and "the naysayers come here and they say nay"....

I probably won't watch this again but it's a mildly entertaining mess. I remember the original BLAIR WITCH PROJECT being played pretty straight

Any other sequels that completely undermine or ignore the 'seriousness' or genuine intent of the originals? there's a few others I can think of...

Agreed.

BTW I see what you did there!

Dr. Phibes rises again.

It wasn't a bad movie but it kinda ignored the original movie's intent. Phibes'  wife was dead and he joined her after "avenging" her.

Rambo 2. Looking at the first and second movies, they really are totally different beasts and it would take a long time for the series to return to its roots.

The Wild Geese 2: no likeable characters and none of the actors from the original such as Sir Roger Moore return.

Motivation from the lead: "Death ate its way into me." Yeah, OK.  :tongueout:

Scott Glenn, Barbra Carrera and Edward Fox busting a Nazi out of Spandau Prison: blah

I keep wondering whether or not I should mention Godzilla's Revenge (1969)...........

Only as "The Godzilla movie that must not
be named."

The original Evil Dead was a straight horror film made on a low budget.

With Evil Dead 2, the camp started to creep in.

PHANTASM isn't exactly a serious film, but each sequel is just a more ridiculous parody of the one that came before it. PHANTASM: RAVAGER was just a complete piece of incomprehensible nonsense.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Return of the Living Dead wasn't Citizen Kane, but ROTLD 2 was just a cheesy piece of crap that tried (and failed IMO) to be funny and campy.  ROTLD 3 was more serious.  4 and especially 5 were just garbage afterthoughts.
