OK, 80'S MUSIC ONLY IN THIS THREAD!

Sure the 80's was horrible. Completely, really, utterly, horrible. Reagan (SPIT!), the beginning of the end of unions, worker's rights, the middle class, the working class, the death of the american dream, the rise of a corporate fascism, the horrible orange thing appearing in the american media for the first time, etc. All it all it was horrible.

But hey, it was the golden age of pen and paper RPG's, the birth of the home computer, the electronic revolution, and or course we had some of the best damn music ever as america fdiddled while it burned. So let's have some 80's music here.

Good topic! The 1980s had great music end to end. This one, I'm Proud To Be An American, came out in 1984, I believe.

Joy Division's Atmosphere, directed by Werner Herzog. This song became a sort of funeral dirge for Ian Curtis, who hanged himself days before the band was to go on tour in the US in 1980 and promote what became its final album Closer. (Named "Closer" as in close to something, it is now called Closer, as in finished, because of the circumstances.)

Moody, haunting song.

MICHAEL JACKSON bought all of the songs in the Northern Songs catalog, that were for sale by 1984.  The Northern Songs catalog included publishing rights to the majority of THE BEATLES songs written by LENNON and McCARTNEY.  McCARTNEY had informed JACKSON of the sale, not realizing JACKSON would be interested.  McCARTNEY was poorly advised and passed.  Yet, he never forgave MJ who probably out maneuvered him (and willing to pay much more).  That portion of MICHAEL JACKSON's estate is probably the most valuable, and heavily mortgaged...
