...wonder if the way we talk now will seem as quaintly weird as people back in the 1930s sometimes sound in those old movies?

...it's past time we adopted metric geometry and instituted 100-degree circles instead of this mind-bending 360-degree stuff.

...hmm, now that I am on straight salary and not commission at this job, killing time instead of working is stealing, isn't it? Oh, I feel just like a politician!
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

Blame the ancient Egyptians. Apparantly it was they who figured out a year had roughly 360 days, and well that is where we get our degrees from.

Probably some truth there, Sven, and I also suspect there is greater uniformity within the American and English languages today than throughout times past when region dialects were profoundly different and clearly marked a person as to his origins.

A German linguist during World War One made recordings, which can be heard on YouTube, of British POWs from various parts of the UK, and their accents were like listening to the phonetic speech of Dickens characters brought to life. Mass media and standardized education have smoothed out a verbal uniqueness that once existed.

Because it's news. It's nice to know who your getting your facts from. Just like when you write something here.
Plus it's polite to introduce yourself before you speak.
