Like magazine ads, or TV commercials-ya know.

This one is a scabbed brand that was burnt on my brain-just from seeing it so many times in every f**king comic book I ever read as a child.

Funny, I was just talking to my friend Mitch about old ads and cartoons and how they show so much about what was important back then and how much has and hasn't changed.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

I remember seeing this one in some American comics I read as a kid and being really unhappy that I couldn't get it in the UK.

Hmm, I wonder if I can pick up a set of them from ebay....

You're lucky, my neighbor ordered the Revolutionary War set from those same ads and it was these 1/4 inch tall solid hard plastic blue and red men. No fun to play with and hell on earth if you stepped on them in carpet.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

The soldiers are all flat. That's how they fit 100 of them in such a small box.

This is a pretty good book on the subject. It shows the old comic book mail order ads . . . and then shows you what the actual product looked like.

I had sea monkeys (aka tiny brine shrimp) a couple of times. I didn't buy them from comic books, though. You could buy them in local 5 & 10 Cent stores. They would swim around for a week or less and then they would usually die.
