so disappointed with this...wasn't expecting a masterpiece but this is total cookie-cutter new school horror.

some of the dialogue, characters and situations made me cringe at the sheer lack of originality.

there's some really unfunny attempts at crass humour.

waaayyy too much reliance on jump scares.

the deaths were decent but nothing that hasn't been done better.

climax goes on way too long and gets tedious.

another pointless horror remake/schmequel to chuck on the pile.

I'm curious, does william shatner get royalties from halloween because they use his face in it?

I'm with you on the climax: that definitely needed an editor or two.

I liked it but I expected more.

I dragged 2 of my bro's to the cinema to see it and ended up apologising to them, lol.... I don't know but for such an iconic franchise it just felt like painting by numbers. it wasn't *terrible* (except for the music at the halloween teen party, that was terrible). fair play if you liked it Trev...

don't know. Is it actually a shatner mask or is that an urban legend? it doesn't look much like The Shat to me!

Yes, it is actually a William Shatner Mask. I seen Gene Rodenberry posing with it, along with some other Star Trek Masks in a Fangoria magazine.

I guess he could get royalties then, lol

it's definitely never referred to in the films that it's a Shatner mask, right?

It's death Mike, but not as we know it...

interesting.

I love how Shatner describes the mask as having been used in "some horror film".

I don't know where to post this, for, as long, as I have been posting here at this website, this is the 1st time I can remember such a difference about a film, it gets a thread in both "Bad Movies" and "Good Movies," but, as I am here, I'll post it here.

We might have finally found a film with "legs" in October. Prior to this, a film would  be #1 at the box office, then be replaced by another film at #1. I think this is the 1st film to be #1 at the box office more than 1 week.

LOL! When ever I see someone saying that audiences want originality in the films they watch. This is further proof that audiences do not want originality. They want unoriginality.

Thus, here is from the USA Today weekend edition (October 19, 2019 - October 21, 2019) and while they arranged it from worst to best, I'm arranging them by the year they were released, so we can see the upward/downward trends in quality.

1978 Halloween #1
1981 Halloween II #4
1982 Halloween III : Season of the Witch #8
1988 Halloween 4 : the Return of Michael Myers #3
1989 Halloween 5 : the Revenge of Michael Myers #11
1995 Halloween : the Curse of Michael Myers #7
1998 Halloween : H2O #5
2002 Halloween : Resurrection #10
2007 Halloween #6
2009 H2 : Halloween II #9
2018 Halloween #2

The shortest time between 2 films--1 year, and the longest time between 2 films--9 years.

What about Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN movies?
They don't count here?

And even the worst of the HALLOWEEN sequels did better that most of his Star Trek movies, sad to say. Because I love Shatner. Wouldn't it be cool if he was in a Halloween movie?

If he were, he absolutely MUST play Michael Meyers.  Then he can be credited as "The Shat" in lieu of "The Shape".

^ haha

plus you would get william shatner wearing a william shatner mask, which would be, like, totes meta bro.

he was in VISITING HOURS which is kind of a slasher. (and AMERICAN PSYCHO 2) so he has flirted with the genre before...

The only things which bugged me about it was that unnecessary WTF plot device later on in the film, the seemingly endless ending, hardly any humor - even the best horror films have some humor -  and the fact that I saw it on my own in the theatre: viewing films should be a shared experience.
