On a similar note to the Stooges posted above ...

The Marx Brothers.

This would've been Groucho, Harpo, Chico & Gummo.....
Gummo went off to fight in WW1, & quit the biz when he got home...
I don't think they added Zeppo until they started making movies in the 1930s.
I'm not sure, but I think the first twenty years, they either worked separately, or were part of an act that worked separately.............

When they first started they always were together.
They're parents were in vaudville- and all of them were as children. I have a book called the MARX BROTHERS SCRAPBOOK by Richard Anobile and Grouch Marx. Any way- I'll scan a picture of them on stage when they were teenagers!

^ Did it mention that in one of Marilyn Monroe's earliest films before she became a star was with Groucho and Harpo (who don't have any scenes together!) in LOVE HAPPY (1949)?

Love Happy was actually originally just supposed to be a Harpo solo movie.  Then (according to the brothers) Chico got involved to help pay off his gambling debts.

Once Harpo and Chico were both involved, the studio refused to go forward with it until they got Groucho as well.

I heard on Paul Harvey once, that Lou Costello started out as a prize fighter, & looked to have a career ahead of him.
Trouble is, he was using an alias because he didn't wan't his parents finding out, which they did, and promptly made him quit.
