Hey all.
We had a thread or 2 about old sayings your folks used to say.  So this may be kinda the same.  But anyway-- what old phrases have you heard of (that may be well before your time) that really have not aged well, and would lose you friends or get your @$$ kicked if you said them today?
One that really annoys me is "hither, thither and yon".  Awful.  As is "the bee's knees".
What can you contribute?
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

I kinda like ' the bee's knees', just because it sounds so silly.  :bouncegiggle:

Don't know if it's antiquated, but "head over heels in love" comes to mind. My head's almost always over my heels.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

You can't have your cake and eat it.

Yes you can. If you don't have a cake you can't eat it. If you eat your cake then you can't have it, but if you have your cake you can damn well eat it. Otherwise what is the point of cake?

Huh? Ever look close at a bug?

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

This saying only applies to residents of Stepford I assume.

The Burgomaster

Here's one from movies of the 1940s (maybe even the 1930s): "Ahhhh, your mother wears army boots!"
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."
