Ever watched 'Supersize Me'?

Normally when I am visiting the US I'll leave about 40% of my meal unfinished as the portions are just too large for me. This causes a certain amount of mental trauma as I was brought up not to waste food.

I heard some high school teacher debunked this by ordering small breakfast sandwiches everyday for thirty days.....

When I go out with my parents, they usually split a meal, while I can eat the whole thing.........

Yeah, serving sizes in the U.S. are obscene. Not just at McDonald's, almost every restaurant gives you too much food. And yet we have a huge problem with obesity, and everyone complains about how hard it is to lose weight.

Recently restaurants have been forced to add calorie information to menus, which is helpful to informed people, but people often don't realize how many calories they really should be taking in. Soft drinks and specialty coffee drinks are some of the worst offenders, people don't realize how many calories they sneak in, while not giving you much of a sense of satiation/fullness at all (not to mention having close to zero nutrients).

I'll eat a full meal at McDonald's, but when I do I'll be sure to make my other meal lighter than usual and cut down on snacks for the rest of the day. It's an extravagant treat, not an everyday thing.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

If you've seen it, then you'll know ordering breakfast sandwiches in no way debunks it. All that means is that a high school teacher ate a small breakfast sandwich everyday for thirty days.

I was aware of the serving size difference, but I didn't know U.S. McDs use ingredients to boost calories. And why add beef flavor to fries? That's weird.

A few american companies started producing food in germany for the german market some years ago. Their products have been adjusted to german eating habits. One can say they are the "healthier" versions of what is available in the US. For example, Lay's chips in germany are less salty, less greasy and the chip size is smaller. Same goes for the serving size. Doritos-Germany also have a smaller chip and you don't get the "orange fingers" like in the US.

Dr. Pepper and Mt Dew here also taste different then in the US.

Anyway, never seen Supersize Me but its still on my list to watch.

If you really want to see it, I'd be happy to send you my copy if I can find it. I watched it about 15 years ago and it has just sat around since then.

I rarely eat fast food. Mainly because there are no fast food places in Lawton. When I do eat it- I don't eat it at McDonald's. The food just sits in my gut like a brick.

Ever notice it doesn't spoil or rot? If you find half a hamburger or some fries in the back seat of a car or under a couch, it just turns hard as a rock. Most food gets moldy. McDonald's just petrifies.
