Asked AI (Copilot) to create me a Fantasy Football cheat sheet based on my specific requirements. First try, it made an error. I told it to fix it, and the second try, it made a different error. Third try it went back to the first error. I gave up. This should be a simple task well within the capacity of AI, and I bet it has no problems in a year, but for now, I wouldn't let AI handle any spreadsheets or meaningful calculations. If you have to double-check its work anyway, you might as well just do it yourself.

earlier today I was just reading about Xenobots. they are tiny organisms created by scientists using AI to design them, and are made out of the skin and heart tissue of frogs. apparently they can perform tasks and reproduce at will... some horror films just write themselves.

About ten years ago, I stumbled onto a website that randomly created proverbs. It was supposed to be a parody; it was supposed to imply that old proverbs had no real meaning. I drew a different conclusion: words have meaning. Combining them with a set of rules intrinsically creates meaning, even if they weren't combined by a human.

I'm a bit shocked & frightened by the current crop of AI systems; I heard people were developing such systems over ten years ago. But I didn't believe the systems would go anywhere; I'd already seen too many broken AI promises.

I grew up reading computer books from the 80's; in elementary school & junior high I expected computers to advance, but by high school I realized the old books had missed the mark. It was well after 2000, & I couldn't create a game by talking to my computer in plain English.

Today I could. But I'm not sure of the point; anyone else could too, & whatever they have the computer create would be closer to their taste than anything I could create. And I'm not sure of the ethics; most morals come from folk ways, &, while this AI stuff has technically been around for years, it was experimental, academic; it required powerful computers & programming know how, & the public at large didn't get to play with it.

I suppose we could try to break things down into basic principles. "AI takes from other works, so don't use it! AI is inaccurate, so don't use it!" But if I go with those too literally, I'd have to give up Star Wars, since Lucas took. ideas from Flash Gordon, The Dam Busters, etc. And I'd have to give up James Oliver Curwood, since he got details about animal life wrong. The principles aren't wrong, but I'm at a loss on how to apply them.
