Just watched the 'Popeye' movie for the first time and all I could think all the way through it was how amazing it was that anyone involved went on to have a successful career afterwards. I was even more surprised when I found out it had made a profit.

I guess there are a lot of people out there with very different tastes to me.

Not of the movie! I lasted maybe 15 minutes.  :bluesad:

I thought the movie was fun.

Shelley Duvall was just perfect for Olive Oyl.

It had plenty of catchy songs too.

strange movie. odd vibe, considering it's based on a kids cartoon..

I like the fact that Bluto was also in PIECES

My then-girlfriend and I watched this at the theater when it came out, and we loved it at the time.
When it was finally released on video 20 years later, my now-wife and I rented it and watched it again.
Fifteen minutes in, we were looking at each other and saying: "Why did we like this again?"
"I shall smite you in the nostrils with a rod of iron, and wax your spleen with Efferdent!!"

I was doing a 1980 time capsule type of video recently and this flick came upon my conscience.  Yeah, it's pretty stupid.  But also yeah, Shelley Duvall was the perfect choice to embody Olive Oyl's physique.  Good casting, at least.  Weird movie for Robert Altman to do!

I also saw it in the theater but I was like 5

Robert Altman- what movies of his are any good? Even his most famous-M*A*S*H- bored me to tears.

Hey- if you dig it-cool! Myself...he reminds me of Mike Nichols.
The only 2 movies I liked of his were the first 2- WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? and the GRADUATE.

Speaking of MIKE NICHOLS... I agree.

Oh, and I meant to point out that POPEYE is the only ROBERT ALTMAN film I did not like.
