somehow I'd never watched a single Chuck Norris movie until yesterday. How I managed that in my lifetime of geeking out on bad movies, especially 80s bad movies, I don't know.

so I got a 3-fer dvd set with MISSING IN ACTION, CODE OF SILENCE, and LONE WOLF MCQUADE.

I've seen the first 2 now, and I have to say I'm disappointed. They're not so-bad-its-good, at least not in my world... they're really bland. just set pieces and random babbling. Norris has the charisma of a cardboard box. very anonymous movies that make me want to unironically say that SAMURAI COP is legit better than both of them.

are there any more CN movies I should check out to change my mind?

An Eye For An Eye is one you should try. I even wrote a review for us here which Andrew published  :teddyr:

There's another one of his I really liked.  I think it was called SILENT SCREAM?

He made a movie in 1982 called Silent Rage, a kind of Chuck Norris meets Frankenstein's monster classic.

That ones fun.
And yes- Norris is a real bad actor.

SILENT SCREAM (1979) was an obscure horror film with Cameron Mitchell and Barbara Steele.

Trevor got it with SILENT RAGE (1982).

Their "fight" at the Roman Coliseum in Way Of The Dragon (1972) really showcased that disparity. We started cheering for Bruce when he did the Muhammad Ali dance, and were baffled when Chuck Norris started doing it too because it seemed so out of his character.  :teddyr:

Bro, try to find Missing In Action 2 (1985). It is much better than the first one, has better action sequences, and has some bonafide good acting moments, only none by Norris himself, who is still as "cardboard cutout" as can be. It still amazes me to this day how Rambo has more emotional range than Colonel Braddock does.   :bouncegiggle:

thanks I'll check it... I read that MISSING IN ACTION 2 was supposed to be the first one, and the first one was the sequel, but they mixed the release order up? I guess they were filmed back-to-back for that to happen

Yeah, I remember hearing something similar about that when I was a kid back in the mid-80s, that Missing In Action 2 (1985) was a prequel that was the original movie, which makes sense because it has absolutely no indication of being a prequel; you are meant to assume that this was Colonel Braddock's origin story of sorts because he is an actual POW in this movie.

Wikipedia confirms this:

Quote from: WikipediaMissing in Action 2: The Beginning is a 1985 American action adventure film, and a prequel to Missing in Action, both of which star Chuck Norris. It was directed by Lance Hool, and written by Steve Bing, Larry Levinson and Arthur Silver.[3] It is the second installment in the Missing in Action film series.

Missing in Action 2: The Beginning was filmed back to back with the original Missing in Action and was originally intended to be the first film of the two. But according to Joseph Zito, director of what was to become Missing in Action, it was decided that the sequel was a much better film and would be a more successful first film. Consequently, Cannon just switched titles and release dates so that the planned sequel was released first, and the planned first film was released as a prequel. It was followed by another sequel, Braddock: Missing in Action III, featuring the same character, but with a stand-alone screenplay.

Soon Tek Oh plays an outstanding villain in this movie, to the point where I think that he actually steals the show and is certainly not your stereotypical Asian bad guy, in that he spends most of his time in the movie psychologically demoralizing the prisoners. Steven Williams from 21 Jump Street, The Equalizer, Supernatural, The Blues Brothers (1980), etc. also turns in an outstanding performance.

You can watch the movie for free here, annoying watermarks and pixely screen resolution and all, but I'd definitely fork over the cash and order the blu ray instead: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=889665768492412&ref=watch_permalink

My favourite Chuck Norris movie is Firewalker, a cheap Indiana Jones knock off.

Just finished LONE WOLF MCQUADE... that was much more like it. very 80s, very fun. cartoony violence almost. I like how Norris can randomly wave a machine gun around for 2 seconds and kill 15 guys standing at various altitudes in a 360 radius.

Also I couldn't get enough of David Carradine's diamond patterened sweater in the final showdown. was that supposed to look menacing? it looked like the kind of thing you'd wear to sit down and play a game of chess with your grandad...
