Villagers have been left hot and bothered after erotic novels were left in a book exchange box for a community library.
Locals were not impressed when the x-rated books were found in the box in Cornholme, near Todmorden in West Yorkshire.
One person was so angry they left a note on a green box, which read: ‘Whoever is placing the copys [sic] of pornographic literature in here, stop! Cornholme is a God-fearing Christian village.’
They then took an unnecessary shot at nearby market town Hebden Bridge, adding: “If this filth is to your liking may we suggest that you move to the cesspit that is Hebden Bridge.”
Hebden Bridge councillor Josh Fenton-Glynn did not take the insult to heart after he saw the note posted online.
He saw it as a positive for his town, tweeting: “As a Hebden Bridge councillor I’d like to thank the people of Cornholme for help with our marketing campaign.
“Please check out our local independent shops. If the Cess gets too much we have a soap shop! Cornholmes also lovely, what it lacks in Cess it makes up for in nice pubs.”
Someone online joked how he was “ liking the sound of Hebden Bridge” after reading the note.
Another amused person added they loved the “cesspit of Hebden Bridge.”
The angry note has now been removed from the book exchange box.
The free library found in Cornholme is common in towns across the country but the books placed in them usually are less controversial.
Cornholme is a former milltown with a population of just 1,600.
