I've recently been watching a few of Bert's films from the 1950s & 60s. My kids actually enjoyed 'Earth Vs the Spider' which goes back over sixty years.

Does anybody else agree that he was underrated as a B-Movie pioneer? If you are unfamiliar with his work a few of his other films that might ring a bell are 'The Magic Sword' & 'The amazing colossal man'

I've found some real entertainment value in a couple of his flicks and it seems he wasn't just churning them out by the dozen as a cheap product.

The guy is 98 now and i believe he was still on the convention circuit as late as 2018. Have any of you guys had the chance to ever meet him?

Never met the man, but some of us here sure are fans of BERT I. GORDON -

...and WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST !!!

I love 'Earth Vs the Spider'.

I honestly don't think he's underrated, he has a similar reputation than Roger Corman, although in a differente way. Good ol' Bert liked to overuse his gimmick of putting big monsters on the screen. I did liked THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN, and VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS, while pretty crappy, has some sweet chicks to look at, at least.  :bouncegiggle:

His favorite of mine was always the sequel to the AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN- the WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST.

I mean- he gave us FOOD OF THE GODS (1976)!

I keep hoping to find a copy of Food of the Gods in a second-hand market. Read the H.G. Wells story some time ago but I've never come across a physical copy of the film.

Bert did a beach party version in 1965!
With Beau Bridges- the Big Lebowski's brother
It was called VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS.

Not a good movie!  :bouncegiggle:
But a watchable one!

JOHNNY CRAWFORD was also in VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS... agree, it's not good (at all) but perhaps a reason I belong to this website.

Used to wonder if Bert I Gordan was his real name.  ( I know now it is-thanks Wikipedia)

But it is kind of funny that a man who made so many giant monster films had the initials  B.I.G.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

Empire Of The Ants was actually quite good.

Don't forget THE CYLOPS. When he picks the girl with the background is simply hilarious. Bert had no shame.

TORMENTED(1960) is another gem from Bert..pretty good ghost story.

Tormented is pretty good; I usually like Bert I. Gordon's movies. FX work isn't much worse than Lost in Space.
