I watched this the other day after having so many people praising it.
I thought, though well acted,  it was waaaaay to long, and underwhelming.

my exact thoughts, the first 4 or 5 times I watched it (not always making it to the end)

but being such a massive fan of FARGO, I persevered with it more than I probably would have with any other film I was underwhelmed by the first 4 or 5 times of watching (!), and then I finaly 'got' it on about the 6th watch... and we're talking about 10 years later after it was released. I don't know why it suddenly clicked with me.

I still don't think it's as anything  like as good as FARGO but I'd probably give it an 8/10

I watched it when it was first released: not funny, overrated and a little boring.

I really want to like the Cohen brothers movies, but I just don't get them. Ultimately I find them unfulfilling to watch.

I loved it the first time I saw it.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

the first time I saw this I thought it was incredibly weird

I've loved it every time since then
Kubrick, Nolan, Tarantino, Wan, Iñárritu, Scorsese, Chaplin, Abrams, Wes Anderson, Gilliam, Kurosawa, Villeneuve - the elite

I remember liking it the one and only time I saw it, which was quite a few years ago. It just popped up on Tubi recently so maybe I'll re-visit it.

^ That's where I saw it. Needed more Donnie.
Otherwise it just seemed like another stoner action movie.

they're all over the place for me... I love FARGO, BURN AFTER READING, and (now) BIG LEBOWSKI. however I don't like MILLER'S CROSSING, BLOOD SIMPLE, or HUDSUCKER PROXY, for example... and then there's INTOLERABLE CRUELTY which is one of the worst films I've seen in the last 20 years or so... when they're on form I think Coen bros are up there with any of the directing greats though

I saw RAISING ARIZONA, FARGO (which I loved), OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?, and this.
Coen's seem to be more style over substance (i.e. Tim Burton).

I had exactly the same experience. One of those movies where the sum is less than its parts.

I had never seen it until about 10 years ago.  I think it's quirky and funny and quotable, but not "OMG I have to watch this over and over!" compelling.
"I shall smite you in the nostrils with a rod of iron, and wax your spleen with Efferdent!!"

Saw it a couple of years ago mostly because all the praise it gets. I didn't laughed once. If it weren't for the tags I wouldn't even believed it is a comedy. Awful movie all around, the plot goes nowhere and the "jokes" can be predicted a mile away.

I like it.  SAM ELLIOTT is my favorite part... except maybe JEFF BRIDGES' head repeatedly plunged into a toilet...

Only film of theirs I truly appreciate is O Brother Where Art Thou

The rest are mostly hit or miss
