i will occasionally put lettuce on a deli meat sandwich, and always cheese. nothing else. hot sandwiches, cheese, cheese sauce, bbq sauce or gravy. that's it. and bacon. bacon goes on any sandwich if i have it, lol!

and potato chips on a tuna sandwich. that really is it, i swear!
don't EVEN...EVER!

If its a deli meat sandwich I'll add a spicy cream cheese spread or spicy hummus, mayo (always) and a few squirts of "special sauce" which is an onion based condiment.
Deli meat sandwiches can be very dry so I usually add these spreads. For the crunch I have a small jar of mixed pickles finely chopped and add that in between the layers of meat and cheese. I rarely put lettuce on my sandwich but will throw on a thin slice of tomato when available. I don't like tomato on a burger but its good on a sandwich.

When I was in the hospital my special request my sisters brought me was a brie sandwich with chopped walnuts and fig mustard. So delicious.

I also do a lot of British crisp sandwiches. Perfect Saturday night food with a couple of dill pickles

*edit to add*

another fave topping is german style fried onions

Is it October yet?

The sandwiches I make are:

Peanut butter & jelly - no toppings

Fried egg (rare) - cheese, pepper

Tuna - cheese

Lunchmeat (poultry) - cheese, mayo

Lunchmeat (beef or pork) - cheese (usually), mustard

I don't get elaborate with sandwich toppings. When I'm making a sandwich I'm doing so so I can have something ready quickly. If I get a sandwich out and someone else is doing the work, I can get all kinds of toppings.

Generally it's lettuce, mayo/spicy mayo, pickles, cheese, potato chips, and hot sauce. If I can get them I'll add grilled onions and bell peppers onto my sandwich. I'm iffy about adding jalapenos onto my sandwiches because I like fresh jalapenos over pickled jalapenos.
yeah no.

I never eat out. I don't order anything. I make it at home. I ain't got a car or money. and I live in the sticks.

I rarely eat bread but sometimes make wraps with romaine lettuce. When using bread it's hard to beat a good grilled cheese, minimal and classic, but I guess my all-time favorite sandwich topping is a nice MLT, mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky, I love that.

Is this like sandwich fillings but instead you put them on top? New concept to me but then I'm not a foodie

Soooooo, to carry RC's idea along a bit, what's the weirdest sandwich you ever made?

In college I was part of crafting a bizarre conglomeration of crazy toppings that included a slice of corn bread, a slice of whole wheat, tuna, Pepto Bismal, Swiss cheese, grape jelly, mustard, pickles, a cold hamburger patty, a glob of ice cream, banana peppers, Mrs. Dash, and syrup, among other things. And the rule was we all had to take a bite of it. Tasted....complex more than utterly disgusting, believe it or not.  :tongueout:

When I was in Norway, I made a Manwich that when I walked out of the kitchen, my host Lise started drooling at the sight of. It had 3 different kinds of meat, 5 cheeses (including goats), as well as tomatoes and some green stuff.

Grilled with sliced pear, cheese, mayo and turkey.  It would probably be just as good as a grilled cheese type sandwich without turkey.  I would have never thought of that combo myself, but a place at my office used to make them and I was so surprised by how good it was.  Grilled PB & J with apples, pears, or bananas is good too.
