Thus my favorite "religious" or spiritual film is probably Michael Tolkin's THE RAPTURE, which is a nice bromide to GOD'S NOT DEAD. In the end nice old Will Patton gets rewarded for his faith but poor (though justly indignant) Mimi Rogers is still welcome to believe what she pleases. To each their own!

The Rapture seems to be everyone's favorite hidden gem. I quite enjoyed it back in the day because it was different. I should rewatch it one of these days.
Is it October yet?

Dogma.

Still my fave Kevin Smith movie, and certainly his most ambitious. Wish it were more widely available, but Harvey Weinstein owns it. So far Kev's attempts to buy it back from his organization have been unsuccessful.

Some kind soul uploaded the whole movie to YT.

The Passion of Joan of Arc

Oh sure. Carl Dreyer, like Tarkovski, is in a category/genre almost all his own...

GOD'S NOT DEAD had its problems but stood head and shoulders above its sequels.
Many atheists I know are delightful people whom I've enjoyed spending time with; I have, however, known a few who are just as obnoxious and as determined to ram their atheism down your throat as the most rabid of fundamentalists are with their "sharing the gospel."

One recent Christian film I enjoyed was RISEN, which was similar in many ways to my book THE REDEMPTION OF PONTIUS PILATE, although not told from his point of view.   Joseph Fiennes played the Roman centurion who crucified Jesus and was tasked with finding his "stolen" body by Pilate.  Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy of the HARRY POTTER films) had a supporting role as a young military tribune.

Can't believe I forgot to mention NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.

The Hiding Place

Its not an easy movie to watch, because the events were so brutal (& the events were more brutal than it shows.) But its a good movie, which shows what a good Christian, a good person, should do.

I don't know if you'd exactly call it a "religious movie," but I just finished re-watching the documentary PATTERNS OF EVIDENCE: THE EXODUS, which looks into the archeological evidence supporting the narrative of the Exodus and events surrounding it (LSS, there is NO evidence for an Exodus in the time of Ramses, but if you go back 200 years earlier, there are many archeological discoveries that could certainly be seen to support a narrative similar to that found in the Bible).   Great, thought-provoking film.

Born Again (1978) about Charles Colson's redemption is a very good film.

Kevin Sorbo is good at playing a huge jackass, I'll say that much about it.  I think he's a decently entertaining actor in some supporting roles.  Best part of the movie really.
