trying to remember a film me and my brother hired out on more than 1 occasion from blockbuster in late 80s

this film would almost definitely be around 1985 vintage

main character is some vaguely superhero-esque guy with black hair, and iirc wears kind of black clothing. an oddly non 'heroic' looking main character who gives off a kind of shady otherworldly vibe

no recollection of the plot but I think he may have been half-human? and possibly from another planet?

the one scene I recall which is definitely 100% in the film, towards the end, is a scene where you think he's dead, lying on his back, and you see a fly crawl out of his nostril(!)... I'm pretty sure he then makes a miraculous back-to-life recovery.

annoyingly I thought this film was called NORTHSTAR, and there is a 1986 tv movie pilot with this title, and I just skimmed through it on youtube and it looks not totally unsimilar, but it's only 1 hour long and there is no fly/nostril scene (unless I missed it?)... why would a 1 hour failed pilot be released on VHS and end up in a UK blockbuster?
Quotethe movie was cringe, corny, cheesy and "what the biscuits" is with this atrocious acting and childish corny thing of a movie???

Alex

If it wasn't for the fly bit, I'd have said Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

Just incase it has that scene and I've forgotten about it, does this give you any memories?

thanks for the suggestion. checked the trailer, and this is too obviously action / car chase orientated (although it actually looks like good fun, I want to watch it). movie I'm looking for has a kind of dark futuristic vibe

thanks. on the title alone I don't think this would be it. pretty sure the film I want has just a 1 or 2 word title (although tons of films have alternate titles of course)... the trailer again looks a bit too upbeat to me.

I've contacted my bro to see if he remembers. He was only about 5 at the time lol

edit, he has no idea

I just watched the whole of NORTHSTAR and that's not it.

dang... while searching I found this question on reddit

Quote[TOMT] What film? Fly (or insect) crawls in to mans ear or nose

There's a man who looks shocked, whilst dead. And a fly (or other insect) crawls into him (or out of him)... Any ideas?! Sorry for the vaguenes

alas my hopes were dashed, turns out to be solved in the replies as YES MAN, starring Jim Carey... it's definitely not that.  :bluesad:
