Germans do not celebrate Thanksgiving like Americans because their history and cultural traditions are different.
The American Thanksgiving holiday is rooted in the harvest celebrations and the historical narrative of the Pilgrims and Native Americans.

Germans celebrate "Erntedankfest" (Harvest Thanksgiving Festival) which is a traditional Christian harvest festival that predates the American Thanksgiving.
It is typically celebrated on the first Sunday of October.
